The Feel

DEW Haven | Maine Zoo & Rescue is proud of our rustic, outdoor landscape built from 90% recycled materials. Don’t expect a commercialized experience…we have wide natural pathways. Strolling through DEW, is more like a nature walk.

Parking

You can park in one of our two parking lots (both are free). One is located at the main entrance, and the other is just across the road and slightly south of our entrance. After you park, you can pay at our gift shop and enter the quarter mile trail.

Interacting

We sell animal feed at our gift shop. You will see signs as you walk around to indicate which animals you can feed.

Walking through

Once you have paid for entrance into the zoo, you are welcome to take the quarter mile loop as many times as you like. We often have people tell us how glad they are they went around multiple times, because the animals were doing different things the second time around.

Tours

Covid has significantly impacted our ability to do tours. At this time, we are unsure whether we will be able to do organized tours. But, there is always staff members available to answer any questions you have, and you may see staff interacting with our animals during your visit.

Animal proximity

At DEW Haven | Maine Zoo & Rescue we try to make your visit as personal as we can with our animals. You are often inches away from our farm animals and only four feet separates you from our exotic animals.

Touching

There is ZERO direct contact with any exotic animals at DEW Haven | Maine Zoo & Rescue. This is a Maine state law and is for your safety.

Rules

In order to make the most of your trip, please review the rules before entering. The big ones being: no running, yelling, throwing things, harassing animals, or climbing on fencing. Following these rules will ensure everyone has a safe and happy visit.

We know kids can struggle with these things. Please understand, our staff members will kindly, but sternly redirect anyone struggling with the rules. This is to ensure everyones safety and we appreciate all patrons understand that safety must come first.

Lunch

We do not sell any food for people at DEW Haven | Maine Zoo & Rescue. There are a couple great local places to eat. Just ask at the gift shop and they will recommend a place. You could also pack a lunch and eat at the boat landing just down the road.

Bathrooms

Portable toilets are available and located only in parking area.

Gift shop

The gift shop items are located at the exit of our path way. We typically sell a range of stuffed animals, t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, etc. All proceeds go directly to the costs of caring for our animals.

Wheelchair accessibility

Yes. DEW Haven | Maine Zoo & Rescue is wheelchair accessible. Please remember we have natural paths. We spend a great deal of time and energy making our natural pathways as smooth as possible, but there inevitably will be some rocks, bumps, and one hill. We have groups of wheelchair users come through often with no problem, but if you feel you typically struggle with uneven ground, please let us help you.
